A Life Well Shared With And For Others…

Carolyn  Janet Hammonds, was born through the union of the late Gabriel Hammonds, Jr. and Thelma Hercules Jenkins Hammonds, on August 12, 1951 in Mt. Vernon, NY. Carolyn was the baby of this union hailing in as the fourth child.

Following the death of her loving mother, Carolyn's father married the late Rebecca Rush of Olanta, SC. Carolyn embraced her new environment and new siblings: Jasper, Walter and Artis. It wouldn't be long before Carolyn and her siblings welcomed two additional children into their loving blended family: Jennifer and Kimberli.

Carolyn received her formal education from the Westchester County school system in Mt. Vernon, NY graduating from Mt. Vernon High School. Subsequently, Carolyn attended a special needs program in the city of New York. Carolyn later used the skills she learned in New York to volunteer within her surrounding community.

Carolyn gave birth to two wonderful children, Rakese Gabriel and Keema Janett. Anyone who knew Carolyn, knew she wanted the best for her children and that she loved to see her family and friends come together.

Carolyn had an insatiable laugh. She was a jokester who loved gaming. Whether she was playing cards, checkers, scrabble, family feud, monopoly, dominoes or word games on her phone, it didn't matter. Along with spending quality time with family and friends this is how Carolyn loved to spend her time.

Carolyn loved her children dearly. Her daughter Keema recalls her laughter when her mom would always say "I'm cute and sexy and don't get jealous." Carolyn loved her family to the very best of her ability. Carolyn will be   remembered for her quietness yet fun demeanor, laughter and jokes.

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, Carolyn Janet Hammonds departed this world leaving a void in many hearts. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel Hammonds, Jr. and Thelma Hercules Jenkins Hammonds; her step-mother, Rebecca Rush Hammonds; two brothers: Kenneth Gabriel Hammonds and Jasper Johnson; three sisters: Vivian Patricia Lewis, Cynthia Olivia Hammonds and Kimberli Ayn Hammonds-Hite; four brothers-in-law: Wallace M. Wright, Earle Roberts, Reverend James  Council and Roston Singletary.

Carolyn Janet Hammonds is survived by her two children: Rakese (Yulanda) Gabriel Hammonds and Keema Janett Hammonds; three grandchildren: Zakharia Cooper, Latasha Hammonds and Lia Hammonds; three siblings: Walter (Geneva) Fleming, Jr., Artis Council and Jennifer Singletary; one sister-in-law: Lois (Jasper) Johnson; three special sister-friends: Ms. Adams, Carol Brown and Ms. Jesse; a host of nieces, nephews, an adoptive child, aunts, uncles, family and friends.
