Carolyn
Peterson
January 30, 1957 – January 23, 2026
Ms. Carolyn Ann Peterson, affectionately known as "CP," was born on January 30, 1957, to the late Margaret "Seal" Davis and Douglas Cox. CP entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with sickness.
Raised in Florence, South Carolina, Carolyn was educated in the Florence County Public School System and was a proud graduate of Wilson High School, Class of 1975. A woman of dedication and compassion, she devoted 32 years of faithful service to the Pee Dee Community Action Agency, where she was more than an employee—she was family. Carolyn found great joy in cooking, nurturing children, and showing genuine love and care to the people she worked with and served.
Carolyn's life was marked by strength, kindness, and a giving heart. She had a warm spirit that made others feel seen, loved, and valued, and her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret "Seal" Davis and Douglas Cox; her stepfather, Otis T. Davis; her maternal grandparents, BoPete and Rosa Lee Peterson; her beloved brother, Derrel O. Durant; and her sister, Patricia Castleberry.
Carolyn's beautiful life will forever be cherished by her loving children, Keith Dion Peterson and Danielle De'haven Walker, both of Florence, South Carolina; her treasured grandchildren, Zamaria Peterson and Destiny Peterson; and her adored great-grandson, Jahmir Peterson. She also leaves to cherish her memory a bonus daughter and granddaughter, Grace Montford and O'Moni Stewart, both of Florence, South Carolina.
She is further survived by her brothers, Willie Durant and Herman (Joanne) Durant, both of Florence, South Carolina; Tyrone Cox and Christopher Cox, both of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters, Theresa Graham of Florence, South Carolina, and Joegener Cox of Columbia, South Carolina; and a bonus sister, Gloria Stuckey of Florence, South Carolina.
Carolyn also leaves behind two special aunts, Mazie Abraham of Florence, South Carolina, and Amy Dennis of Lithonia, Georgia; one uncle, Mose (Pauline) Peterson of Florence, South Carolina; a very special niece, Jerica Stroman Muldrow of Denver, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Though she has answered her heavenly call, the love Carolyn shared, the lives she touched, and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to live on.
