Mrs. Clara McCown was 76, and departed this life on Friday, November 24, 2023 in Florence, SC.

Clara McCown, age 76, of Florence, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023. Born on November 16, 1947, in Hemingway, South Carolina, to Gladstone and Virginia Sumpter, Clara's journey was marked by love, family, and unwavering faith.

After graduating from High School, Clara ventured to New Jersey and later settled in Connecticut, where she began a career at Sargent in 1973, dedicating herself to her work until her retirement in 2013. Her dedication mirrored the commitment she showed to her family, the center of her world. Clara was an active member of Mount Gideon Faith Fellowship Church, in New Haven, for many years. She was most proud of being her two youngest grandaughter's Sunday school teacher.

A devoted mother to Stacey Jones (Ronald) and Lamont McCown (Liza), Clara's love extended to her grandchildren, Malik, Malaysia, Jalynn, Jada, and great-grandson Noah. Her retirement in 2013 prompted a move to Florence, SC, bringing her closer to her cherished family.

Clara's siblings, Franklin Sumpter (Nancy), Naomi Williams, David Sumpter (Geneva), Nefolia Walker (John), MacArthur Sumpter (Agnes), and Alfred Sumpter (Grace). She was predeceased by her sisters, Willer Mae Cooper and Annie Sumpter. The love she shared with her nieces and nephews was immeasurable.

Services to celebrate Clara's life will be hosted by Draper G Myers Mortuary at Mt. Olive SDA Church in Hemingway, SC 29554 on Friday, December 1, 2023 Friends are invited to pay their respects at 9:00am, with the service commencing at 10:00am. In honoring Clara's memory, may we find solace in the love she shared, the family she cherished, and the faith that guided her through a life well-lived
