Clemestine Rainey was born on September 7, 1950, in Lake City, SC to the late Richard Scott and Edith Eaddy. Clemestine peacefully passed at home on October 23, 2024. She was a devoted mother to her children, Crystal, Marcus, and Samantha.
Clemestine received her education from Florence County Schools. She graduated from Carver High School in 1968. After graduation she lived briefly in New York and worked as a telephone operator at Bell South. She returned to Lake City and over the years worked in numerous positions. She ultimately retired from Amtrak in 2016.
Clemestine was raised in Deep River Holiness Church in Lake City, South Carolina, and later joined Mt. Claire Missionary Baptist Church. Clemestine will be remembered as someone who was honest and outspoken. She was fashionable, hardworking, and known for her famous macaroni and cheese. She was a proud member of the class of 1968 and had a deep affection for her family especially her sisters. Clemestine's effervescent spirit will truly be missed, and her wit will live in our hearts forever.
Clemestine was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Scott and Edith Eaddy, her husband Simmie Rainey, Jr. and her son Marcus Simmons.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Crystal McClam of Columbia, SC, and Samantha Rainey of Ashboro, NC; six sisters Alice Scott-Rose of Columbia, SC, Florence Scott, Janice Scott, and Loretta Brown all of Florence, SC, Rachael Singletary and Forestine Scott of Lake City, SC; two brothers Alvin Scott of Menifee, CA and Johnny (Toni) Scott of Hickory, NC; four grandchildren Abigail "Tierany" Black of Tulsa, OK, Sharmaine Simmons of Orangeburg, SC, Tramaine McClam and Ahbriana McClam of Columbia, SC.; three great-grand daughters Gia McClam, Kailani Daniels, and Ava Dorsey; five special nieces Makeba, Tracy, Morgan, Linda, and Aishia; her lifelong friends Lorraine Davis, Dianne Thomas-Abraham, Sarah Rose, Emma Carol Martin, and Gloria Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
