Mrs. Eva Mae Brown, the daughter of the late Ruby Lee Slater and the late James Slater, was born August 4, 1949, in Darlington County. She is the oldest of her siblings. Eva departed this life on November 28, 2024, at MUSC, Florence, SC.
Eva received her formal education in Darlington County public schools, and was a 1967 graduate of Mayo High School, home of the Golden Bears.
At an early age, she attended Bethel AME Church in Darlington, SC. Later in life she became a member of Monumental Missionary Baptist Church until she became a member of New Harvest Presbyterian Church in Florence, SC, where she faithfully served over 20 years until she became ill and passed. Eva was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Cluster Leaders; she was a Prayer Warrior and Choir member who loved to sing praises to the Lord. When she wasn't on the choir, she loved to give the children words of wisdom.
She was united in marriage to James Brown, their union was blessed with a son, Jermaine A. Brown.
Eva spent most of her adult life in Darlington, S.C.. She was employed with Florence County School District Two, Darlington County School District, and James Rivers (Dixie Cup) in Darlington, SC. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, and family member. Her favorite hobby was shopping at the mall and working out at the Fitness Form. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband James Brown; son Jermaine Brown of Nashville, Tennessee; stepson Jamison (Keisha) Brown of Richmond, Virginia; stepdaughter Marcia (Shannon) DeMar of Powder Springs, Georgia; five step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; sisters Nyoka (Riley) Carter of Darlington, South Carolina, Gloria Jean (John) Young of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Robin Edwards of Darlington, South Carolina, Jamie Slater of Columbia, South Carolina, Jacqueline Gattison of Darlington, South Carolina; brothers Tommy (Quinnette) Slater of Atlanta, Georgia, Marvin Slater of Darlington, South Carolina; sisters-in-law Jeanette Brown and Shirley (Richard) Warner, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Annie White of Lexington, South Carolina, Diane (Robert) Dicks of Williston, South Carolina; brothers-in-law Ronnie (Mary) Brown and Roger Brown, all of Williston, South Carolina; special friend, Dorthy (Johnny) Holmes; a host of other relatives and friends.
