Obituary

Mrs. Gloria L. Reese-Porchea was 50, and departed this life on Saturday, December 24, 2022 in Johnsonville, SC.


Services are scheduled to be held 2pm Friday at St. Luke AME Church, 539 Chinaberry Rd. Johnsonville, SC.


Mrs. Gloria Levon Reese-Porchea, affectionately known as Luie, was born October 4, 1972, in  Florence County to Sammy Reese and Martha Belin-Curry. She departed her earthly life on  Saturday December 24, 2022.


Gloria graduated from Johnsonville High in 1990 and furthered her education at  Florence-Darlington Technical College, receiving an Associate's degree in Surgical Technology  in 2015. Gloria continued her educational journey with a Certified Medical Assistant degree  from Miller-Motte Technical College in 2020. Gloria began her professional healthcare career  with Nightingale Nursing as a Home Healthcare professional for several years. She was later  employed by Mcleod Hospital with her latest role being within their Internal Medicine  Department up to her recent passing.


Gloria joined St. Luke AME church at an early age and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior,  Jesus Christ. At St. Luke AME church, Gloria was an active and dedicated member. She was the  Lay President, a Class Leader, member of the Gospel Wonders Choir, Inspirational Choir,  Stewardess, Women's Missionary Society, Homecoming committee, and the hospitality  Committee. Gloria was a faithful member of St. Luke Chapter #116 Order of Eastern Star of  Johnsonville, SC, who previously served as the Worthy Matron.


Gloria was loved dearly by her family, friends, community, and anyone who has ever met her.  She deeply loved her daughters, grandchildren as well as her family. Gloria's quiet yet warm  spirit, caring nature and loving personality was felt by those blessed by her presence.


Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jesse C. Porchea, maternal grandparents Ozell & Artie Misha Davis-Belin, paternal grandparents William and Louvenia Reese, Reverend  James and Sally Curry, four aunts and fourteen uncles.


Gloria leaves to cherish her fondest memories: two daughters of the home Allyson Reese and  Aayanna Washington, her three grandchildren King, Kaleb and Kenya Leggett all of the home;  her parents Sammy Reese and Martha (Jerome) Curry, all of Johnsonville, SC; siblings Samatha  (Sam) Turner, Christopher Reese of Johnsonville, SC and Kristina (James) Freshley of  Pamplico, SC, Verlisa (Melvin) Spivey of Middleton, CT, Cordetres Curry of Binghamton, NY  and Lanetta Allen of Meridien CT, nieces Destinee, Samaya, Genesis, Tamera, Amiya, Crisslyn,  Cormari, Naima; nephews William, Christian, Sekou, Zahir and Jayden; aunts Geneva, Genet,  Annie Mae, Wilma, Evelyn, Ella Nora and Gwen; uncles Bobby, Lee Archie(Patricia), Ricky (Lorraine) and Harry; godchildren Allarquaisha Cain, Jessica Stuckey, Taylor Cain, godmother  Emma Belin-Reese of Wake Forest, NC and god-siblings Tara, Sonya, Allardrekia and  Brandon; adopted sisters Sylvett, Chastity, and Mary Ann; she also leaves behind a host of  sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and of other relatives and friends.
