Hattie Mae
Jacobs
September 9, 1936 – February 11, 2023
Mrs. Hattie Mae "Brownie" Jacobs, daughter of the late Henry and Lydia Stuckey, was born September 9, 1936, and departed this life on February 11, 2023 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. She was the third of nine children.
Hattie Mae, affectionately called "Brownie," attended the public schools of Lee County, graduating from Dennis High School in 1955. At an early age, she received Christ as her personal savior and joined Barnettsville Baptist Church where she maintained her membership until moving to New York.
On February 14, 1956, she married Wilmar "WJ" Jacobs. This union was blessed with two children. After marrying WJ, they journeyed to New York. There Brownie continued her education, becoming a Radiologic Technologist specializing in mammography.
In 1995, she retired from Bellevue Hospital in New York, and in 1998 she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be near her children. In 2006, she moved to Florence, SC to be closer to siblings. After moving to Florence, Brownie reestablished her affiliation with Barnettsville Baptist Church.
Brownie was a special caregiver to many family members in need. She was a very loving mother, sister, and aunt. When her mother passed, she became much like the matriarch of the family, showering them with love and encouragement. Brownie will be greatly missed by all. God has a special place in Heaven for people like her.
Brownie is survived by her daughter, Deirdre J. Bonaparte, two grandchildren, Daniel Bonaparte and Jordan Bonaparte, a sister, Betty S. Pinckney, two brothers, Roosevelt (Josephine) Stuckey and Odell (Priscilla) Stuckey, two additional sisters-in-law, Sarah Stuckey and Minnie Jacobs, four brothers-in-law, Herbert Jacobs, Michael Jacobs, Lawrence Jacobs, and Isaiah Felix, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, and a close friend and caregiver, Annette C. Brayboy.
Brownie was predeceased by her husband, Wilmar Jacobs, a son, Howard "Curtis" Jacobs, brothers, Henry Stuckey, Jr., Leroy Stuckey, Jesse J. Stuckey, Willie Stuckey, and a sister, Dorothy Stuckey, sisters-in-law, Lonzena Felix, Kathleen Jacobs and Mattie Stuckey, and brother-in-law, James Jacobs.
