With deep love and heartfelt remembrance, we celebrate the life and legacy of Helen Ruth Lowe Townsend—a devoted servant of God, beloved mother, and cherished grandmother whose impact was felt by family, friends, and all who crossed her path.


Early Life and Education


Helen was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, to Oneader Lowe Milo and the late James Ford Sr. She was educated in the public schools of Bennettsville, where she built a strong foundation rooted in faith, hard work, and compassion. Helen later earned her Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, further equipping her for a life of service and dedication.


Career and Work Ethic


Throughout her life, Helen worked diligently in various roles, always offering her best and touching the lives of those around her. Her employment included positions at Homes, Oak River, Beaver Dee, and her own entrepreneurial ventures. In every environment, Helen was known for her grace, kindness, and steadfast commitment to helping others, leaving a lasting impression through her sweet soul and beautiful spirit.


Spiritual Journey and Service


At an early age, Helen dedicated her life to the Lord—a pivotal decision that guided her throughout her journey. She began her spiritual walk at St. Beulah Baptist Church before joining Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church of Bennettsville, SC, where she embraced her calling as a missionary. Helen's faith continued to deepen, leading her to the Faithful Few Apostolic Church in Hamer, SC. Answering a divine call, she established the Faith, Prayer, Praise & Worship Center of Bennettsville, SC, where she served for many years as a spiritual leader, prayer warrior, and beacon of hope to countless souls. In her later years, Helen relocated to Florence, SC, where she continued her spiritual walk as a member of New Grace Temple Church Ministries.


Family and Loved Ones


Helen is now reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband, William H. Townsend; grandson, Tyrek Malachi;   father, James Ford Sr.; grandparents, Charlie & Carrie Lowe, Dorothy M. Eagan and Elijah Williams; special nephew, Bernard Brown; siblings and loved ones Tyrone Benton, James Benton, Nyisha Jagmohan, Katherine Ford-Wilkins, Lucius Davis, James Ford Jr., James Cleveland Ford, Carolyn Smith, and Sherry Stuckey who preceded her in death.


Surviving Family Members


Helen leaves behind a legacy cherished by her family: daughter, LaShone McGill; two granddaughters, Bernica McLaughlin and Helene McLaughlin; grandson, Bryan (Aneisha) Malachi; sixteen great-grandchildren; mother Oneader Lowe Milo; two goddaughters, LaKeisha (Rodell) McNeil, and Tondra Bradford; two godsons, Kevin Brown and Casey Jones. Helen's memory lives on through her many siblings: Arthur Lowe Jr., Juanita (David) Brown, Barbara (Charlie), Randolph Lowe, Brenda Ford-Covington, Angela Galloway, Deborah (James) Ford, Renee Williams, Stanley (Brenda) Benton, Saundra Benton, Yvonne Benton, Bruce Benton, Anthony (Evelyn) Benton, Etherine Fortune, Leon (Andrea) Clark, Leonard (Michelle) Bruton, Donna (Ernest) Moore, Denis (Daneika) Ratliff, Shirley Ford-Hall, Vanessa (Steve) Brown, Vickie (Harry) Lemon, Katie (Dwight) Nago, Benny (Lenora) Stuckey, and Perry (Cynthia) Stuckey, Tyrone Morrison; and step sister Deanna (Michael) Brewer.


Extended Family and Special Bonds


Helen also enjoyed special relationships with her in-laws: Roosevelt (Phyllis) Townsend, Ralph (Rose) Townsend, Geneva, Starr and Sarah Townsend, and David (Sue) Townsend. She is remembered fondly by Nigel Jagmohan, Karen Benton, Kim Benton, and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Legacy


Helen Ruth Lowe Townsend's legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her life was a testament to devotion—to God, her family, and her community. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched and loved.
