James Washington, Sr. was born on March 14,1947 in Florence County to the late Joseph   Bryant, Sr. and Bertie L. Washington. James entered into eternal rest Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Mcleod Regional Medical Center.

Sonny as he was affectionately known by many and as POP by his grandkids attended the public schools of Florence County. James worked for CSX until he was injured on the job, later working for Darlington County School District where he retired.

James in his early life was a member of the Pee Dee Baptist Church, Pamplico, SC, where he was a faithful member of the Pee Dee Travelers. Later in life he became a member of the Maxwell Baptist Church.

Sonny was a caring father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.

James was preceded in death by his first wife of over 40 years Doris L. Washington, two daughters, Pamela B. and baby Dora Washington, step-daughter Vernita White, granddaughter Alena C. Hart, as well as all his brothers and sisters.

Sonny leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Robertha Washington of the home; six sons James (Makeishia) Washington, Jr., Joseph T. (Toni) Washington, James White, Jacob White, Jonothan White all of Florence, SC and Joshua White of Atlanta, GA; one daughter Bridget Mouzon of Darlington, SC; one step-daughter Jessica White of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren that were raised in the home Adriana Allison Washington and Dominic Washington; eighteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers-in-law Burince (Hope) Douglas, Willie Peguese and Tommie Peguese; sisters-in- law, Alonda (John)  Crittenden, Joan Bacote, Myrtle Jones, Gloria Peguese, Virginia Peguese and Willie Mae Peguese; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.
