Lizzie M.
Jenkins Adams
July 19, 1942 – March 19, 2025
Lizzie M. Jenkins Adams, 82, of Middletown, CT, surrounded by her loving family, entered into her heavenly rest on Wednesday, March, 19, 2025. Lizzie was born to the late Elijah and Florence Jenkins on July 19, 1942 in Pamplico, SC. At the age of 16, she and her best friend Magdalene traveled to White Plains, NY to visit for the summer. Her older brother Sam picked her up to visit with him and his wife Eara in Middletown for what was supposed to be a few weeks only. She loved it so much that she made CT her home.
Lizzie was a childcare worker until going to work for Forest City Cleaners. She worked there for many years before becoming a pre-school teacher for CAGM. She was employed there until the late 70's. In 1980 she was hired by Raymond Engineering now known as Kaman. Lizzie remained at Kaman for 29 years until she retired in 2009; but she wasn't finished yet! She then went on to work part-time for Companions and Homemakers. After the passing of her client, she decided to fully retire. You could always find her in Stop & Shop or Dress Barn being the social butterfly that she was. She would be in various stores for hours doing more talking than shopping. She never met a stranger. To know her was to truly love her and if you had the pleasure of being in her presence with old school music playing, you were in for a treat. She was our little dancing machine; you couldn't help but to join in with her.
Lizzie was a genuine friend and a gentle soul with a heart of gold. If there was anything she could do for you, it was done without hesitation and the only way anyone else knew about it is if you told them yourself. Spending time with the sick and shut in was important to her. Especially with those in nursing facilities, they had a special place in her heart. She would visit them often and didn't mind sharing her delicious home-cooked meals. Lizzie always called to check on family and friends. She may not have always remembered names, but definitely knew who you were. She would flash that beautiful smile and greet you with "heyy Bae" or whatever nickname she had given you.
Lizzie was a devout member of Zion First Baptist Church for over 60 years. She sang with various choirs before joining the Usher Ministry, where she found her true calling. She served for many years until her health prevented her from doing so. Even though she wasn't physically able to attend services in recent years, watching online brought her great joy.
Lizzie leaves to cherish her precious memories, her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Shawn Strickland, Middletown, CT. Daughter Kellee Adams, Florence ,SC. Sons, Duane Adams, Bronx, NY and Derrick Adams, Florence, SC. Sister Renetta Jenkins Watson, Charleston, SC. Bonus sister, Linda Williams, Middletown, CT. Grandchildren, Shavonna, Sharoyd, Shawn Jr., Jayda, Keianna, Janiyah and 5 great grandchildren. She was blessed with several dear friends throughout her lifetime that she considered family. A host of nieces and nephews, Peggy Jenkins, Tammy Williams, Stephanie Ortiz, Sandra Jenkins, Dennis Jenkins and Rev. Johnny Jenkins are just a few. All of her siblings' children and their children as well, held a special place in her heart. She loved them dearly. Last, but certainly not least, a very special cousin, Ms Margaret Hicks. She had the title of Caregiver, but the love and compassion she showed was so much more. Top tier sums it up best. There's no doubt that you were sent to her by God.
In addition to her parents, Lizzie was predeceased by siblings, Nathaniel, Elijah, Thomas, Sam, Jerry, Cordie, Allen (Tiny), Johnny, Susie and Pearl Jenkins. Bonus sister, Rosa Lee Brown. Niece and nephews Sonya Jenkins, Paul Frierson and Maxie Jenkins.
