Obituary

Mary Gee Ellerbe was born on November 6, 1942 to the late Manzy Pooler and Cleo Gee Sparks. She peacefully departed her earthly home on November 24, 2023. Although her given name was Mary, She was always lovingly called "Didi" by her family and friends. Didi was a warm-hearted, humble person with an easy going personality. She was an affectionate, gentle soul whose warm-hearted spirit  radiated throughout her community. Didi loved hugging and kissing family members.

Didi attended the public schools of Florence County. She was baptized at an early age at Savannah Grove Baptist Church. Later she became a member of Church of Christ where Reverend Dr. J.C. Goodman is pastor. She believed and had faith in God. One of the most important things she did as a parent was to hand down her faith and belief in God to her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a hard  worker with a strong work ethic. She became and worked as a seamstress for over 50 years.

Didi loved attending baseball games, cooking, bingo and traveling. God gave her the gift of being an excellent cook. Didi's house was always open and ready in sharing meals with immediate, extended family and friends. She was the only one in the family who knew how to make biscuits and corn bread from scratch. Her cakes were legendary in the family. Everyone wanted Didi's cakes. She also made and had the most delicious fish fry dinners.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Ellerbe; parents; her brothers, Roosevelt Gee, Willie (Bill) Gee, Levan Pooler; sister Mary Pooler Benjamin; and a granddaughter, Latres Gee.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories four daughters Debra (George) Profit, Cathy Gee, Tina (Charles) Myles and Mary (Jerry) Harrell; her three sons Sandy (Shirley) Gee, Steven Gee, Chauncey Gee; two sisters Minnie Lee Johnson and Myrtle Gardner; one brother James Sparks; her four grandchildren Chiquita Gee, Rachele Gee, Breana Myles and Eli Devaughn; two great grandchildren, Kaylen Benjamin and Josia Gee and two special cousins whom she helped raise Tommy (Brenda) Gee and Michael Gee.

Didi was a loving, kind, phenomenal woman who will be dearly missed but her memories will live on forever in her children, grandchildren, extended family members and friends.
