Mary Louise
Grant
March 3, 1947 – February 13, 2026
Mrs. Mary Louise Dobson–Grant, our deeply cherished Mother and the proud, loving Matriarch of our family, peacefully entered eternal rest and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 13, 2026. Surrounded by love and carried by grace, she transitioned gently, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, strength, and devotion.
Mary Louise's radiant warmth, infectious laughter, and boundless, unconditional love filled our hearts and home with immeasurable joy. She had a beautiful spirit that lit up every room she entered. Her greatest happiness was found in the presence of her children and grandchildren. Whether on the sidelines of a game, cheering on her South Florence Bruins, and may we not forget her Philadelphia Eagles. She was always there offering encouraging words during life's challenges, she was always their loudest cheerleader, their safe place, and their constant source of pride and encouragement.
Born on March 3, 1947, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Mary Louise was a woman of grace and quiet strength from an early age. She graduated from Timmonsville High School, class of 1965 and furthered her education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Her dedication to service and excellence led her to a long and meaningful career with Florence School District 1, where she faithfully served for over 20 years before retiring. Her work ethic, compassion, and commitment to nurturing others left a lasting impression on colleagues, students, and families alike. Retirement did not slow her generous spirit. Mary continued to serve her community wholeheartedly, simply because she loved people. She truly never met a stranger—only friends she had not yet embraced. Her kindness knew no limits, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer comforting words, or share her beautiful smile with anyone in need.
Mary Louise was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Reather Carroway Dobson Wright; her devoted father, Ulysees "Buck" Dobson; dear sister, Beverly Wright Daniels; and loving brother, Austin Dobson. Though she deeply missed them, we rejoice in knowing they welcomed her home with open arms.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory and extraordinary life her three devoted daughters: Hope LaNese (Derrick) Grant-McQueen of Darlington, SC; Millicent Rolanda Grant of Florence, SC; and Danielle Ranae Grant of Florence, SC; she was the proud and adoring grandmother of five treasured grandchildren: Tekoyia Antoinae Washington, London LaDerria McQueen, Loyal LaNese McQueen, Kenyatta Jah'Maurion Williams, and Mahogany Vemeer Price, each of whom brought immeasurable light and pride into her life. She also leaves behind two loving brothers, Ulysees Cred (Jennifer) Dobson and Glenn (Priscilla) Dobson; one dear sister, Deanna Renee Wright Gainey; eight nephews; six nieces, a cherished son-in-love, Kenyatta D'Army Williams; a loving ex sister-in-law, Ms. Eva M. Grant; two very special and beloved god daughters, Jamira Alexis Smith and Faith Angel Mack; one devoted godson, Maurice Sellers; and a special and faithful transporter, Johnny "Brock" Williams, whose kindness and support meant so much to her and the family.
Mary Louise's legacy of love, faith, generosity, and strength will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the beautiful memories she gave us and the unshakable love she planted within our family.
