Obituary

God blessed the late James and Olivia Cain with a beautiful daughter, Nora Faye Cain, on May 25, 1954. She was born and raised in Pamplico, SC.


Nora completed formal education in the Florence County School District, earning her high school diploma from Hannah Pamplico High School in 1971. She continued her studies at Palm Beach Community College earning an Associates of Arts in Social Work. Nora earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University in 1983. While working in the library, Nora met the love of her life, Thomas McKissack. They were united in holy matrimony on June 28, 1986.


After college, Nora began her lifelong career as a social worker at Glades Mental Health, Healthy Mothers and Babies, and the Juvenile Justice Center.  For the last 30 years, she was employed at JFK North Hospital, where she worked with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral concerns. Nora was very passionate about the field of social work and became a social work preceptor for Barry University and Florida Atlantic University.


She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and joined Spring Branch Baptist Church. Nora later joined Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, FL where she was a faithful member of the Mass Choir.


Nora loved God, family, friends and her pets. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at her home in SC.


She transitioned from this life to life everlasting on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her son, Sterling McKissack; parents, James and Olivia Cain; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Lena McKissack; brothers, James Cain, Jr and Robert Cain; and brother-in-law William McKissack, Jr.


Nora leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, Thomas McKissack; three grandchildren, Quieres, Jamari, and Brooklyn; one brother, Odell (Jackie) Cain of Eden, NC; two sisters, Verdell Bolden of Belle Glade, FL and Myrtis Cain of Pamplico, SC; one god child, Jermaine Cain of Pamplico, SC; three sisters -in-law, Linda (George) Brown of Thompson Station, TN, Patricia McKissack of Franklin, TN, and Sharon (Vience) McCullough of Franklin, TN; one brother-in-law, Sidney McKissack; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and coworkers.
