Reverend George Ashley, Sr. departed this earthly life on June 7, 2023 at MUSC surrounded by his loving wife    Rachel Ashley, children, grandchildren and friends. He was born in Florence County on September 13, 1937 to the late Hayward Ashley and Bessie Robinson.

Early in life he attended the public schools of Florence School District 1. At age fifteen, he began a career as a chef at McCleod  Regional Medical Center and worked until 2020. He was also an associate minister at  Maxwell Baptist Church.

He was a loving and outgoing person who took great confidence in teaching and preaching for the prison and elderly ministry. During his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his most popular family activities was watching and attending sporting events. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers and Wilson High School fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sabrina Ashley, step-son Harry A. McFadden and several brothers and sisters.

He leaves to cherish precious memories; a devoted wife of thirty-three years Rachel Ashley, children, step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, sister-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
