Rothan Darrell
(Goodman) Butler
March 24, 1969 – May 7, 2025
Services are scheduled to be held 12noon Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Pentecostal United Church of Christ, Apostolic Convention Center, 4430 Pamplico Hwy, Florence, SC.
Mr. Rothan "Rock" Darrell (Goodman) Butler was born on March 24, 1969, in Lake City, South Carolina, to the late Mrs. Ruby Lee Rose Goodman. He was lovingly raised in Florence, South Carolina, by Dr. J.C. Goodman and Mrs. Ruby Lee Rose Goodman. On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Rock peacefully entered eternal rest in Lynchburg, Virginia. Rock was educated in Florence One Schools and proudly graduated from Wilson High School, Class of 1987. Known for his humor and big heart, Rock was the ultimate jokester with a gift for making people laugh and feel seen. He found joy in life's simple pleasures—spending time with family, traveling, enjoying good food, cruising in his beloved truck, and cheering on his favorite team, the Carolina Panthers. Always the first to fire up the grill, he made every family gathering warm and memorable. Professionally, Rock worked for several years at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Later, he discovered his passion for trucking and was employed by Total Trucking at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mrs. Ruby Lee Rose Goodman. Rock's greatest pride and joy were his daughters and grandchildren, whom he spoke about with unwavering love and pride. A kind and gentle giant, Rock left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his father's, Dr. J.C. Goodman and Mr. Willie (Iola) James Butler, Jr.; two beloved daughters, Kadija Gee and Kayla Butler; and three treasured grandchildren: Christopher Sowells, Marquis Sowells, and MaKynlei Sowells. He is also survived by four brothers: Jimmy Goodman of Florence, SC; Derrick (Nicole) Goodman of Greensboro, NC; John Paul (Bridgette) Goodman of Hope Mills, NC; and Jamie Butler of Pompano, FL; and three special sisters: Ganesha Goodman, Amanda Goodman, and Sarhonda (Anthony) Wilkes. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, special sister-in-laws, extended family members, and cherished friends who will miss him dearly.
