Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Ellen Samuel James departed this earthly life on Sunday, December 25, 2023, in Mcleod Hospital after an illness. She was born on November 23 ,1935 in Timmonsville, SC, to Junious and Queen Samuel.


Mrs. Ruth attended the public schools of  Florence District One.


She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.


She was a member of Majority Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Alfonso Porter.


She became the beautiful bride to Mr. Willie Lee James "Joe" in 1952, this union was blessed with eight children.


She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons Leroy James and Willie Lee James Jr., siblings Raymond Samuel, Roy Samuel, Ora'Lee Bowls, Anna Lee Samuel and Dessie    Hickman.


Left to cherish her precious memories, children John (Cynthia) James, Joanne Myers, Ruth Mae (Don) Mitchell, Ellen (Tommy) Williams, Jeanette (Monroe) Givens and Willie Jean (Melvin) Hardy; loving grandchildren who she treated as her own, Willie Lee (Melissa) James, Demetric Delay, Lashawn (Angelo) McCall, Lashea George, Shavon (Ervin) Harkless, Katyra James, Quateshia James, Angel (Christopher) Smith, Shequila James, Meldrica Hardy; two  sisters Queen Esther Rhodes and Dorothy Ann (Charlie) Ward; special nephew Darryl     Hickman; along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.


She will be missed by her loving family, friends, and community.
