Sarah Mae
Briggs
May 12, 1935 – May 14, 2024
Mrs. Sarah Mae Askins Briggs, affectionately known as "Bait", the daughter of Henry and Sarah Simmons Askins, was born May 12th, 1935, in Florence County. On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, she departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest at 5:59PM at her home.
Mrs. Briggs attended the public schools of Florence County. She was a devoted Certified Nursing Assistant at Florence Rehabilitation Nursing Center. She was dearly loved by her co-workers and residents where she retired after more than thirty-five years of service.
At an early age she became a member of Central Baptist Church, and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior where she worked diligently and faithfully until her health declined. She served as an usher, senior choir member, missionary, and deaconess.
She was united in holy matrimony to William M. Briggs in October, 1953 for over sixty-seven years and to this union eight children were born.
Sarah loved gardening, flowers, and plants, as she could grow anything. She loved to cook Sunday dinner for her family and friends. Her doors swung wide open for all. She was a woman of very few words, but would always give you words of wisdom. Her character was far more precious than rubies and she displayed the character of Titus 2:3-5 woman of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband William McKinely Briggs, parents Henry Askins and Sarah Simmons Askins, two beloved children, sisters Bessie A. Leecost and Lousie A. May and brother Willie Askins, Sr.
Sarah leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, daughters Rose B. (Alonzo) Timmons, Geraldine B. (Rev. Cecil) Cunha, Mary B. (Kenneth) Scott, Constance B. Johnson, Ella Mae Briggs; one son Gary Lee Briggs, all of Florence, SC; six grandchildren Angel Y. Briggs who was dedicated to taking care of her grandmother, Sonja C. Scott, Jamal Scott, Sophia (Deon) Evans, Joshua Scott and Maretha Jackson; four great-grandchildren Ashley Briggs, Alexis Scott, Ava and Avery Evans; special family friend Ronnie (Sandra) Timmons; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
