Mr. Wilford "Pete" Mention, Sr. of Hemingway, SC was born on May 17, 1954, to the late Mack and Gladys Mention, Sr.

He joined Hopewell AME Church at an early age and was a 1972 graduate of Choppee High School.

Pete entered into the sacrament of matrimony on April 23, 1981 to Clara Mae Mention. Several children were born into this union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-love, two brothers, two brothers-in-love and  one sister-in-love.

Throughout Pete's lifetime, he has been a remarkable family man, friend and a dedicated employee. He worked for Wellman Industries for 28 years, drove trucks for 10 years, farmed and street raced in his spare time before retiring.

He entered eternal rest at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Pete leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving wife of 44 years, Clara Mae Mention; five children, Karen (Carroll) Singletary, Carlette Brown and Shantel Brown all of Hemingway, SC,     Wilford Brown, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, Clarissa (Tank) Graham of Kingstree, SC; one bonus daughter, Bernice Gordon of Hemingway, SC; twenty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four sisters Maxine (Louis) Blackmon and Joyce Moore both of Columbia, SC, Reushel Gregory and Karen Wilson both of Hemingway, SC; three brothers, Mack (Katrine) Mention, Jr. of McClellanville, SC, Warren (Lettie) Mention of Hemingway, SC and Winfred Mention of Salisbury, NC; two sisters-in-love, Rosa Hiram and Cheryl (Darryl) Humphries both of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-love, James (Lou Ann) Brown of Hemingway, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
