Calvin Danielle Sowells Sr. Obituary

Calvin Danielle Sowells, born December 7, 1987, in Florence County, South Carolina, peacefully transitioned from this life on August 26, 2025, at the age of 37.

Calvin grew up in Timmonsville, where he attended Florence School District Four and proudly graduated from Timmonsville High School in 2007. Known for his big heart, radiant smile, and the love he carried for family and friends, Calvin touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His smile could light up any room, leaving warmth and joy with all who shared his presence.

Calvin was employed by JPW Motors, where he worked with dedication and pride. His commitment and vision led him to become the proud co-owner of the company, a role that reflected his drive, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit.

He was the beloved son of Brenda Renae Sowells of Timmonsville, SC, and Calvin Leon Gettis of Lynchburg, SC. He is deeply cherished by his siblings, VanSean (Qudeline) Sowells, and Brittney Sowells. Calvin was also a devoted father to his two children, Calvin Danielle Sowells Jr. and Angel Hope Durant, and was excitedly awaiting the birth of his unborn daughter, Skyla Danielle Sowells. His children were truly the lights of his life.

Calvin shared a special brotherhood with his godbrother, Trey Whittaker, and was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews: Michael Hicks, Tykeis Hicks, Aniyah Sowells, Tyshawn Sowells, Tyion Sowells, and Trenton Hickson. He was also blessed with two great nieces, Ka’Lani Sowells and Kai’Loni Sowells, who brought him great joy. He also held a unique bond with his cousins Adrian Addison, Fredricka Sowells, Mariah Sowells, Frederick Sowells, and Marcus Sowells — whom he loved as siblings.

His family circle extended with love through his aunts, Tamara Jackson and Bridget Addison, as well as his uncle, Willie Sowells Jr.

Calvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy and Willie James Sowells; cousin, Maury Addison; and uncle, Frederick Williams, whom he loved deeply.

Calvin leaves behind countless memories of laughter, kindness, and love. He also leaves in tender remembrance his very special friend, Kyla Dukes, the mother of his unborn daughter, Skyla.

Though Calvin’s time on this earth feels far too short, his impact was immeasurable. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his  family, his warm spirit, his entrepreneurial determination, and the unforgettable smile that will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Calvin’s memory will live on in the hearts of his children, family, and all who had the blessing of knowing him.
