Sister Celia Bell Kelly Gainey was born on May 4, 1954, in Johnsonville, SC. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Elijah Kelly, Sr, and Mrs. Irene P. Kelly. On Sunday, March 10. 2024 at approximately 8:30 pm, she answered God’s call and transitioned from labor to reward.
Sister Celia was a one-of-a-kind person. She never met a stranger and made a friend everywhere she went. She was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Hannah-Pamplico High School in Pamplico, SC.
Sister Celia met and married the love of her life; the late Mr. Roy Lee Gainey and this union was blessed with one son.
She was employed with Wellman Industries, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina and Florence County School District 2.
Sister Celia was a former member of the St. Luke AME Church and Aimwell Baptist Church. She later became a member of the Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Lynchburg, SC under the leadership of Bishop Calvin McNeil. She was baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the Holy Ghost.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sister Celia was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, three brothers, three sisters, parents-in-law, several aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
Sister Celia leaves to cherish her memories: beloved son, Fletcher L. Gainey, sister, Mrs. Gertie (Bishop Calvin) McNeil, brother, Mr. Elijah (Nancy) Kelly, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Mr. George Gainey, and Deacon Harry (Betty) Gainey; aunt, Mrs. Rena P. Ellis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Gethsemane Apostolic Church Family.
