Deaconess Mary M. Brewer Obituary
Mrs. Mary Magdalene Brewer was born on June 24, 1947, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late David and Rosa Wilson. From the very beginning of her life, Mary exemplified devotion, grace, and a quiet strength that would define her journey and bless all who knew her. She entered into eternal rest on January 13, 2026.
Mary received her education in the Florence County school system and proudly graduated from Wilson High School in 1968. That same year, she pursued her passion for beauty and service by earning her cosmetology license. Though highly skilled in her profession, Mary’s heart was always centered on her home and family.
On August 9, 1968, Mary was united in holy matrimony to Harold Brewer, a union rooted in love, faith, and commitment. After marrying at the young age of 21, she worked only two weeks outside of the home before she and her husband made the loving decision that she would devote herself fully to being a homemaker, while continuing to serve many women and children in the community as a trusted and talented hairstylist. Together, they built a life that was blessed with four children—two daughters and two sons—whom Mary nurtured with unwavering dedication. She was a homemaker from a very young age and took great pride in caring for her family. Mary was an exceptional cook and baker, a gifted seamstress, and was widely known and admired for her remarkable skills as a cosmetologist.
Faith was the foundation of her life. From childhood, she was a faithful member of Wayside Chapel Baptist Church, where she served diligently and joyfully. She was a Willing Worker, served as the church recording secretary, and lifted her voice in praise as an alto in the Celestial Choir.
Mary was the fourth-born of twelve siblings, a role that helped shape her nurturing spirit and sense of responsibility. She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.
Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted and loving husband, Harold E. Brewer, Sr. of Florence, SC; her children: Regina (Eric) Shannon of Lugoff, SC; Vida (Will) Boyd of Hoover, AL; Harold (Amanda) Brewer of Charlotte, NC; and John Kerry Brewer of Florence, SC. She also leaves her treasured grandchildren: Harold “Tripp” Brewer, III of Gastonia, NC; Marquise Brewer of Myrtle Beach, SC; Michael Brewer of Fairburn, GA; Willie “Tre” Boyd III of Hoover, AL; Gabrielle “Brie” Boyd of Hoover, AL; and Maryanna Boyd of Hoover, AL; one sister, Jacqueline Pompey of Florence, SC; one brother, Michael Wilson of Mars Bluff, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Mary Magdalene Brewer will be remembered for her loving heart, her servant’s spirit, and her unwavering faith. She found great strength in the Book of Job, trusting God in every season of life. Like Job, her faith remained steadfast even through trials, living out the words she held close to her heart: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” Her life stands as a quiet testimony of endurance, grace, and complete trust in God.
