Dominique T. Howard Obituary

Dominique Tywan Howard, often called “Nique” was the son of Moses  Howard and Zona Ann Mitchell Howard. He was born September 25, 1982, in Florence County and departed his earthly life on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Mcleod Regional Medical Center.

Dominique grew up under the leadership of the late Pastor Wilhelmina Skinner at Evergreen Progressive Church of Jesus. He became a drummer at the tender age of four years old and at the age of fifteen he became a self taught bassist.

He was a class of 2000 graduate of South Florence High School. While in high school he played bass for the gospel choir. After high school he continued to play bass at church, festivals, concerts, baby showers, weddings, birthday parties, etc. He was  a part of TOS Live Band and Show, Brothers by Faith, Fallen Child, The Craig Sorrells Project, Level 10, and more. Dominique was a brilliant master of music. Not only was he an expert on the bass, he emphasized the theory of music as a whole. He enjoyed analyzing the layers of melodic construction that are often overlooked. He would often learn parts of other instruments and voices in addition to his. His ear was prodigious. He had the utmost respect for his craft and devoted his life to his musical expression. He emphasized the words “play the song like the record.” To him, music wasn’t something to do to just pass the time. It was his anchor. It was the motivational drive behind his well being.

Dominique was a charismatic, humorous individual. He would often be seen laughing in a corner or cutting a joke with someone. He had a plethora of friends from different walks of life who all seemed to be drawn to him. Dominique wasn't one to judge a book by its cover; instead he embraced everyone with pieces of him. His way of thought was very unorthodox. He was a light that didn't have to be seen but his presence was definitely felt.

Those left with fond memories to cherish are daughter Ni’Kadeyyn D’Monyai Howard; parents Moses Howard and  Zona Ann Mitchell Howard; brother Leonard (Marquia) Howard; niece Kirsten M. Howard; nephew Kali A. Howard; nine aunts and uncles Bernice Mitchell, Faye Waiters, Bruce Mitchell, George (Charlene) Mitchell, Miriam (Roy) Capers, Martha Boseman, Liston Howard, Helen Howard; special cousin Frederick Howard; a host of other family and friends.
