Evelyn Charles Hunter was born April 15, 1939, to the late Liston and Jamina Brockington Charles. She transitioned into the glorious arms of Jesus on Tuesday, March 22, 2023.
Evelyn was educated in the public school system of Florence County. She attended the old Wilson High School.
At a younger age she attended Majority Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev O.E. Jackson where she sung in the choir. Later in life she joined New Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Rutledge. As time progressed, she remained at New Ebenezer under the leadership of Rev. Norman Gamble. Evelyn loved her pastor and her church family.
Evelyn worked for Florence General Hospital and at its new location as Carolina Hospital systems which is now MUSC Hospital for over 38 years.
All who knew Evelyn loved her. She was well known for her “feistiness”. It was her trademark and made her well known and well loved. Evelyn was a little piece of leather but well put together.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Charles Brown and five brothers Liston, Edgo, Ervin, James, and Bobby Charles.
Those left to cherish her wonderful memories are her children two sons Timothy Hunter of the home, Randy Hunter of Charlotte, NC, two daughters Rhonda (Chavis) Dobby and Giya Hunter both of Charlotte, NC; a beloved grandson, Hakeem Hunter of Charlotte, NC, that was reared in the home; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two special nieces, Janice Cooper and Sarah Ford, three sisters-in-law; a special friend for over forty-five years, Naomi Green; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She’s loved beyond words and missed beyond measures.
