Frances Pipkins Hawkins transitioned from her earthly home at 9:46 pm on August 9, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Florence, SC on September 12, 1951 to the late Harry James and Nancy Mazourine “Margie” Pipkins.
In her early childhood, Frances attended the public schools of Florence District One. She was a graduate of Wilson High School, class of 1971. Post graduation she attended Florence-Darlington Technical College for her secretarial certification. She also attended Chris Logan Beauty College where she received her cosmetology certification. She entered the work force at Electric Motors, then a host of diverse companies including Playmates Daycare, RST&B, Kmart, Sam’s and lastly the YMCA, where she retired.
She was a loving and caring soul with a servant’s heart; whom prided herself on caring and providing for her family. She was a devout mother and grandmother. With a bright and creative personality she found joy in making others smile and laugh. If you knew her, you knew that she possessed many comedic talents that would turn your frown upside down. She believed that in life obstacles would come but you have to keep moving forward with joy and laughter. “It is what it is and this too shall pass” where amongst her frequent mantras.
During her free time she was the Queen of the arts. With her creative mind she would use everyday household items to create beautiful art pieces that she decorated her home with and shared with family and friends. She had the ability to use what some considered nothing or trash and mold it into something beautiful and eye catching. She was a true artist in her own right. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, whom she introduced her love of arts and crafts to and it took root.
In addition, to her father, she is preceded in death by her husband William Hawkins, son Patrick Pipkins and brother Willie Pipkins.
She leaves her legacy to her mother Margie Pipkins, son Terrance Antonio Pipkins and daughter Nyamekyer Sonja Badu, grandchildren Ki-yana Pipkins, Malik Pipkins, Na’sha Pipkins and Hakeem Pipkins; great grandchildren Gabriel Pipkins and Yuri Jackson; siblings Alex Pipkins, Catherine Pipkins Mack, Nancy Jane Pipkins, Streeter James Pipkins, Tracy Leon Pipkins, Claudia Holmes and Patricia Howell, lastly a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Her children would like to thank everyone who gave a helping hand and support during these last eight months. We would also like to give a special thank you to her additional caregivers on her final journey Jane Pipkins, Margie Pipkins, Edna Ellerbe, Tyechia Brown, Melissa Baugh, LaShondel Spears, Catherine Mack and Katina Byrd.
