Mrs. Hattie Ralphine Scipio Spears, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and devoted servant to her community, was born on August 22, 1952, to the late Corine Cannon Scipio and Clarence Scipio, Sr.
Hattie was educated in the Florence County School District and was a proud graduate of Wilson High School, Class of 1970. She continued her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where she earned an associate degree in Secretarial Science in 1973.
Hattie dedicated many years of service to her professional career. She worked for the late Attorney John Gaines and later retired from McLeod Hospital, where she faithfully served as an Emergency Room Unit Secretary. Her work ethic, professionalism, and caring spirit left a lasting impression on all who worked with her.
A woman of faith and service, Hattie was actively involved in several organizations. She served as a Girl Scout Leader at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Timmonsville, South Carolina, was a proud member of the Wilson High School Alumni Association (WHSAA), and held a membership at Peaceful Baptist Church in Timmonsville, South Carolina. She also attended New Zion Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina.
Hattie was united in holy matrimony to James R. Spears, with whom she shared 49 years and nine months of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and family.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband, James R. Spears; her children, Jamal (Maxine) Spears of Guyton, GA, Lakisha (Maynard) McNair of Gastonia, NC; and Clarence Cross of Bronx, NY. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Raekwon, Shamal, Jamaya, Khylei, Aiden, Jacob, Kyrie, and Myles, along with three great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her brother, Benjamin Scipio; sisters Ettaphine (Michael) Allen, Lorine Kennedy, and Barbara Addison; a special daughter Angela Shuman and further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her loving spirit and gentle heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clarence Scipio Jr.
Hattie Ralphine Scipio Spears will be remembered for her kindness, faithfulness, and unwavering devotion to family and community.
