Jerome Grant III Obituary

On September 24, 1949, in Florence, South Carolina Jerome Grant, Jr. and Gladys Helen Cain Grant welcomed their third child. Jerome Grant III was   the younger brother to Annie and Diane; he was their baby boy. The Grant children lost both parents early in life and were raised by   relatives in their hometown of Pamplico, SC. Annie, Diane, and Jerome took care of each other and remained close throughout their lives.

Jerome joined the Army as a young man and once discharged spent time  working & traveling in several different states. He was adventurous. As long as he had a car, he was free – free to go where he wanted, see who he wanted, and do what he wanted. He eventually returned to Pamplico and spent the latter part of his life in the place he loved. He made a home for himself surrounded by family and friends on the land left to the Grant children by their parents. The land was their legacy.

Jerome loved being a “country boy.” He loved to fish, be in the quiet of his home, he fed stray cats, liked watching sporting matches, music and having a good time and loved being with his friends and family. If you knew him, you have a memory of something funny or encouraging he either said or did.

Jerome was a member of Mill Branch AME Church in Pamplico. While he was not a frequent attendee of church, he was a person with a strong faith and belief system. He was a reader of the Holy Bible and expressed in recent years that he was at peace with his life.

The Grant children passed in the order that they were born. Annie in 2016, Diane in 2020, and Jerome in 2024. He was a loving brother to his sisters and missed them greatly. He was a good brother-in-law to Diane’s husband Robert Ragin. While Jerome was not married nor had any children, he was a caring uncle to his nieces and nephew (Robert Jr., Regenia, & Camilla). He was a   beloved nephew, cousin and friend to the many members of the extended Cain & Grant families.

Jerome Grant III was a good person. Jerome could appear quiet and unassuming until you got to know him. He was feisty and stubborn. Charming and caring. He was a good listener, opinionated but not judgmental, kind    loving and was loved. On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, he was called home. Those left behind can take comfort that he is no longer hampered by earthly concerns but instead is forever free. The goodness and light that he brought to others will be carried on by those who knew and loved him.
