Julia Lee Evans Obituary

On Friday morning, God saw His child growing weary and whispered, “Come to me.” Julia L. Evans drew her last breath and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

Julia, the eldest child of the late Benjamin and Julia Murray, was born in Florence, South Carolina.

She attended the public schools of Florence and entered the workforce early, beginning her career at Sanders Memorial Hospital, which later became Florence General Hospital, and eventually the Carolina Hospital System. Julia dedicated 45 years of service in the dietary department and made headlines during one of Florence biggest snow and ice storms when she walked eight blocks to work through the snow.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Julia was a devoted member of Monumental Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Senior Usher Board and participated in the Senior Missionary group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Evans, and her parents.

Julia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Known for her generous spirit, she had a heart of gold and enjoyed sharing with others. Her family cookouts were legendary, and she was renowned for her cornbread dressing, potato salad and collard greens.

Julia leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her companion, Ronnie Ellerbe; children, son Randy Murray and daughter Diane Moses. She was a proud grandmother to Jamal Murray and Erica Moses, and a doting great-grandmother to Tyasia Murray. She is also survived by two bonus daughters, Rhonda (Daniel) Williams and Danielle Brown; a bonus grandson, Charlie Ford, Jr.; a bonus nephew, Meltice Murray; and a bonus great-nephew, Jaquan Johnson. Her surviving siblings are Claretha McCall, Susie Murray, Debra Murray, Annette Williams, Dora (Herbert) Hughee, and Ida Swinton, along with her brother

Benjamin (Lillian) Murray. Julia’s goddaughter, Daisey Paul; best friends Vivian Paul and Carolyn James were also close to her heart, along with a host of extended family and friends.
