Lacy “Billy” Scott III was born on August 18, 1955, in Florence, SC. to Lacy Jr. and Trannie Mae Scott. He departed this life on Friday, November 21, 2025, at his home in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Lacy was a 1975 graduate of West Florence High School, Florence, SC. After high school Lacy enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for three years and received an honorable discharge.
After being discharged from the military, Lacy followed in his father’s footsteps and began a career of truck driving beginning with LG Dewitt Trucking Company of Ellerbe, NC and other companies thereafter. Lacy enjoyed driving trucks and traveling extensively through all 50 states of the US as well as Canada.
Lacy loved the Lord, and he enjoyed his entire family. He was first united in Holy Matrimony to Alice Faye Bradford of Columbus, MS. To this union three children were born. He later joined in Holy Matrimony with Lillie Mae of Raeford, NC.
Three children preceded him in death, one daughter, Peggy Brackett; two sons Diondre Capehart and Michael Capehart and one brother preceded in death, Bruce Anthony Scott.
Left to share in the precious memories of Lacy is his children, two sons, Anthony (Shameka) Scott of Jonesboro, AR and Demetrius Capehart of Florence, SC; two daughters, Meyisha Scott of Jonesboro, AR and Candace (Issiah) Lane of Columbus, MS; two step-children; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four great- great grandchildren; seven brothers, Deacon Tommy Scott, Ernest (Wilma) Scott, Henry (Kimberely) Scott, all of Florence, SC, Gordon (Alfreda) Scott of Effingham, SC, Wayne (Bertha) Scott, of Winnsboro, SC, Tron Scott and Travis (Katrina) Scott of Candor, NC; three sisters Ipridella (Debbie) Scott and Cathy Hickson of Florence, SC and Rena Bennett of Hamlet, NC; one special maternal uncle, James Harold Bacote of Florence, SC; a loving step-mother, Ms. Dollie Mae Scott of Candor, NC; two close cousins, Juanita Williams and Barbara Jean Gainey of Florence, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
