Lowayne Williams Obituary

Lowayne Williams, a loving son, father, and brother, passed away on February 23, 2025. Born on June 5, 1945, in Florence, South Carolina, to parents Harristine Myers Cockfield and Lonnie Williams.


Lowayne spent his childhood between South Carolina and New York, attending schools in both locations.


Lowayne was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 during the Vietnam War, stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia and received a National Defense Service Medal for expert


Marksman. After completing his military service, he began a 13-year career with the United States Postal Service (USPS) in The Bronx, New York.  Music was an integral part of Lowayne's life, he enjoyed singing and was a talented member of a local group Monsoon. 


Additionally, he loved track and field, participating in meets throughout New York City. Those who knew Lowayne will always remember his infectious laugh, which could instantly brighten up a room. 


Lowayne was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Joyce Cockfield and Audrey Johnakin.


He leaves behind to cherish his memories loving children, Lowayne Custis Jr. of Delaware, NY, and Subira Kenyatta Williams of Bronx, NY; grandchild Nevaeh Custis; his sisters Annie Morris Doup of MD, Marie Williams of Jamaica, NY, JoAnne Wiliams of NY; a host of relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.


Rest in peace, Lowayne. Your music, love, laugh and legacy will live on in our hearts.
