Marion Black Obituary

A Time To Be Born

Marion Black was born December 16, 1949 in Florence, SC to the late Marion & Meridian  Black. He was baptized at an early age at Trinity Baptist Church.

A Time To Grow

Marion grew up in Florence, SC and graduated from Wilson High School class of 1968, he attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and majored in welding. Marion, affectionally called Marion Gene, had a tremendous zeal for living. He was joyful, caring, loving, kind and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He loved to laugh! He cultivated (developed) a great love for music and his favorite artist was James Brown. James Brown’s “Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud” was not only his anthem but an inspiration and gave him a great sense of pride.

A Time to Work

He joined the United States Navy and was stationed at Naval Station Air Jacksonville, FL. Marion was a welder in Florida for several years until he became ill and returned to Florence, SC.

A Time To Die

Marion was a resident at Southland nursing home until the Lord called him home. He was called home from labor to reward on Saturday, January 6, 2024 after an extended illness.

A Time To Mourn

Precious memories will always be cherished by his children, sons Howard Johnson of Lubbock, TX, Morian Eugene Black of Palatka, FL; daughters Toshiba (Byron) Robinson of Jacksonville, FL, Nicole (Merlin) Smith of Middleburg, FL; siblings Lorenza Anthony Black, Sr. of  Florence, SC, Marilyn (Levance) Gordon of Effingham, SC, Marietta (James) Murphy of Clinton, MD, Marvin (Luneal) Black of Florence, SC; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a dear friend Ms. Arnetta Faye Styles, of Palatka, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
