Mary Rogers Obituary
Mary W. Rogers, 77, transitioned peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 26, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Stallings, North Carolina. Born January 31, 1948, in Hemingway, South Carolina, Mary was the daughter of the late Clyde Shefton and Mae Ethel Woodberry Shefton.
She was a proud graduate of Chavis High School and later attended Middlesex Community College in Connecticut.
Mary married the love of her life, the late Willie James Rogers, also of Hemingway, SC. Together they built a beautiful family, and after having two sons, Mary was overjoyed when she finally welcomed the baby girl she had long prayed for. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary’s family was the center of her world.
For 35 years, Mary was employed with Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut before retiring and returning south with her husband to make their home in Timmonsville, SC. While living in Connecticut, she was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Her deep faith in the Lord guided her life and was reflected in her loving, empathetic, compassionate, and confident spirit.
Mary’s joy was found in life’s simple but meaningful pleasures—gardening, shopping, cooking, and being surrounded by family. She was passionate about cooking and was often called upon by relatives to prepare favorite dishes or bake something special. Her home was the heart of many family gatherings, cookouts, and holiday celebrations. She shared a unique and special bond with each of her grandchildren, who adored her deeply. Known for her style, Mary never missed an opportunity to dress up, often slipping into her signature red heels. She loved music, enjoyed dancing, and brought light, warmth, and laughter wherever she went. Fiercely protective of her children, Mary instilled in them strength, faith, and love.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Willie James Rogers; and her sister, Shellie D. Woodberry.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Michael Rogers and Brian Keith (Tashema) Rogers both of Middletown, CT, and Brigitte Rogers of Stallings, NC; six grandchildren: Antiwone, Jasmine, Brian Jr., Brandon, London, and Langston; and four great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Skylar, Cairo, Elia Elani, and Ariston; she is also survived by her brothers: Jessie (Betina) Woodberry of Bloomfield, CT, Albert (Jackie) Woodberry of Monroe, NC, Joseph (Irish) Woodberry of East Hartford, CT, Clyde Jr. (Tracie) Woodberry of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kenneth (Constance) Woodberry of Chicago, IL; her sisters: Minister Martha Vickers of Hemingway, SC, Thelma Woodberry of Florence, SC, Janice Woodberry of Charlotte, NC, Janet (Levi) Dollard of Hemingway, SC, Doris McWhite and Dorothy Parker both of Johnsonville, SC; her brothers-in-law: Deacon O’Neil (Lillie) Rogers and Deacon William (Addie) Rogers both of Florence, SC, Phillip Rogers of Rocky Mount, NC; her sisters-in-law: Lela Mae Rogers and Ethel Rogers both of Johnsonville, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving relatives and friends.
Mary’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her faith, her laughter, her cooking, and her unwavering love for her family will remain as her lasting legacy.
