Mary Emma Scott, daughter of the late Edward and Annie Scott was born on August 1, 1940 in Florence County. She departed this earthly life at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC on September 3, 2023.
She received her education in Florence County. She relocated to Florence, SC and she started employment at Faith Healthcare Center, then worked with Florence Steam Laundry until her health declined.
Mother Mary Scott was a faithful servant for many years at Steppingstone Holiness Church and was the lead singer with the Heavenly Gospel Singers #2.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and spent many years serving the community. Mary was loved by everyone she interacted with and will be remembered as a light for every life she touched.
Mary was preceded in death by parents and grandparents, her husband, John Robert Howard, daughter Ruth Brooks, and son, James Howard, two brothers, James Edward and Curtis Scott, three sisters, Annie Ruth Latson, Hattie Mae Coleman, and Rena Bell Gregg, and one daughter-in-law, Tina Howard.
Mary leaves to cherish her life and memory, two daughters, Sheron (Reverend Jerry) Grant and Annie (Russell) James; three sons, James Scott, Emmett Howard and Anthony Howard, all of Florence, SC; stepdaughter Sylvester Burgess of Myrtle Beach, SC; three sons-in-law, Reverend Jerry Grant, Russell James, and TJ Brooks, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
One of Mary’s favorite songs is Walk Around Heaven All Day and based on how she lived her life, we know that she is walking around heaven with her siblings, her daughter, son and our Lord.
