Mother Mildred Essie McWhite Obituary
Mildred Vereen McWhite slipped away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, while in the compassionate care of McLeod Hospice House of Florence, transitioning gracefully into eternal life. Born on September 9, 1942, in Horry County, she was the beloved daughter of the late Chavis and Mary Wilson Vereen.
Ms. Mildred was educated in the Florence County School System. Throughout her life, she worked faithfully in several roles, beginning as a cafeteria attendant and later serving at Commander Nursing Home and the Marriott Courtyard.
She had a true gift for cooking, and nothing brought her more joy than preparing meals that made others happy. With a gentle spirit and a warm heart, she never met a stranger; her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
She was united in marriage to the late Willie G. McWhite, and to this union seven children were born. Four of her children preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by seven sisters, Magalene, Nancy, Mabel, Della, Christine, Ernestine, and Cleonise and three brothers, Rudolph, Boston, and Winford.
A woman of unwavering faith, Ms. Mildred loved God deeply and was a devoted worshiper at Aimwell Baptist Church. One of her greatest joys was preparing early on Sunday mornings, eagerly waiting for her son to take her to church. It was a privilege she cherished.
She leaves to treasure her memory: her sons Burns Amos (Teresa) McWhite of Florence and Dan McWhite of Coward; her daughter, Verlene Ferguson of Pamplico; five grandchildren and six great‑grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Pastor Lonnie Chestnut of Conway, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends — all of whom she loved dearly.
