Mr. Oscar Carter Jr, affectionately known as “Rilla” and “Tiny Baby”, was born December 14, 1950, in Effingham, SC, the Community of Goodland to the late Oscar Carter, Sr and Mamie Green Carter. He departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2023, in the home.
He was educated in the public schools in Florence, SC, and a graduate of Wilson High School Class of 1970. He was employed with Merita Bakery for 20 years. After retirement he was a self-employed chauffer, that allowed him to experience many trips to Atlantic City and Carolina Panther’s football games; however, he was an avid Washington Redskins fan. He was also a bus driver with Florence Public School District One in which he received the Wilson High School Bus Driver of the Month in 2007.
Oscar was well known for his passion for farming and growing some of the best produce in the Pee Dee Area. He loved his family and affectionately gave everyone their own nick name.
He was united in marriage for 41 years to Joann Brockington.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Carter, Sr, his mother, Mamie Green Carter and brother Nathaniel “Nate” Carter.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his children Stacie (William) Carter-Cooper of Ladson, SC, Dr Hillery (Andre) Carter-Dolford and Jarvis (Tina) Brockington both of Florence, SC; siblings Elder Melvin (Floree) Carter of Columbia, SC, Christopher (Janet) Carter of Washington, DC, Diane Davis, Geniece Crawford both of Timmonsville, SC, Emma Jean Carter of Washington, DC, and Nancy (Jesse) Holmes of Waldorf, MD; grandchildren Joshua Muldrow, reared in the home, James Muldrow, Jarvis Brockington, Jr, Sequoyah Pagan-McCall, Nakyah Elijah, Nalissa Carter, Andre Dolford, Jr, and Carson Dolford; great-grandchildren Rayden Muldrow and Dejah McCall; in-laws Harriett Washington, Jerome (Elizabeth) Brockington, Gracie (Eddie) White, Charles Brockington, Allen (Barbara) Brockington, Sarah Williams, Jackie Williams all of Florence, SC, Sophia (Michael) Gee, Larry Williams, and Neomia (Mickey) Willoughby, all of Darlington, SC, Rosa Brockington of Atlanta, GA; a bonus grandson, Xavier Jones; a brother-in-love, Wayne Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
