Ralph L. Timmons Obituary

Ralph Levonne Timmons, the son of Jettie Ruth Timmons and the late Rev. Lewis Scott, was born on October 4, 1964 in Florence County at Carolina Hospital. Ralph departed this life on October 30, 2024.


Ralph graduated from South Florence High School in 1982. Ralph attended Francis Marion University and Florence-Darlington Technical College. Soon after, Ralph received his bachelor’s degree in music from Louisiana University.


Ralph affectionally, during his early young years, took piano lessons from Minister Vernetta Brown. Ralph then formed the infamous choir called the Singing Angels in the early 70’s. After the choir members departed, Ralph began to play music for his home church Mount Rona Baptist Church in Friendfield for many years. Mr. Ralph Timmons then became the minister of music for several churches throughout Florence County.


Also, during his time at his home church, Ralph married Margia McDowell in 1992 and they were marred for several years. 


Mr. Timmons also worked as a brick mason at Frank’s Construction Company and was employed at Amtrak as a conductor and a ticket agent. Ralph soon decided to move to Englewood, N.J. where he worked as a freelance brick mason and was a minister of music at Community Baptist Church in Englewood, N.J. Two years later he moved back home to Florence County and soon after moved to  Darlington County. During his time back home he continued to play for several churches in Florence County as minister of music, earned an associated degree in business administration from Strayer University with hopes of one day opening a restaurant.


Mr. Ralph Timmons leaves behind many great memories of a musical gift from God throughout his life, mother Jettie Ruth Timmons; two sisters Betty Timmons and Arlene Timmons from Englewood N.J.; brother Benny (Reva) Timmons; four aunts Rubydell Hannah, Bennie Jean Crooks, special aunt Starlean (Randy) Thompson, and Barbara Scott; uncle Willie Timmons; two nieces Amani Timmons and favorite beloved niece April “sweetie baby” Timmons; four nephews Terell Timmons, Lenell Timmons, Brent Timmons, Wille Emanuel Timmons; a host of other relatives, cousins, family and friends who loved him dearly.
