Rev. Dr. Beverly Ann Jackson Obituary

July 30, 1948, James and Charlotte Ross Bradley welcomed their second of three daughters, Beverly Ann Bradley. She attended Lemington Elementary School  and then to Peabody High School where she graduated in the top one percent of her graduating class. She was head majorette at both her high school and her college. She especially loved the German language and was offered a full scholarship to study the language in Germany. Beverly came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior at the tender age of twelve and was baptized in her home church, First Baptist Church of Penn Hills, Pittsburgh Pa.

Beverly attended Morgan State University, Baltimore, Md where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in sociology. During her time at Morgan, she pledged to the sorority of Delta Sigma Theta in the Alpha Gamma chapter.

Beverly began her professional career at the Maryland State Department as a probation officer. She later  relocated to Columbus, Ohio where she continued her work in the Probation field. At that time, she joined the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the Inspirational Choir and as an Adult Sunday School Teacher. Her class was always the best well attended. She also served during this time as a Youth Leader and as a contributor to the Church’s Newspaper.

In 1981, Beverly was able to realize a lifelong dream to travel to the Holy Land, the land of her Savior! She also visited Egypt and Rome on this pilgrimage.

Another big change in direction came when Beverly and her husband were expecting a child, a child for which she had begged the Lord. At this point, she made the decision to return to school to earn a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education so that she would be able to spend summers off with her child, Jocelyn.  Beverly has two undergraduate degrees and a Master’s Degree. Beverly worked as an elementary school teacher for 6 years in Columbus before relocating to Maryland where she spent over 22 years  teaching at all levels from elementary to college level. Beverly was a brilliant Master teacher, who was  extraordinarily  organized, fully committed with a servant’s heart, and compassionate to all of her students. When the Lord placed it on her heart to volunteer to teach new members classes at the New Psalmist  Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, she created a graduate level curriculum to introduce the members to an in-depth study of the Christian faith that has been in place for nearly 20 years. People loved her and they loved this course. Beverly earned a Master’s Degree in Theology from St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland  after accepting her call to the Gospel Ministry. She was licensed to preach under her then pastor, Dr. Walter Scott Thomas in 2003.

Beverly retired from her second career as an educator and relocated to Florence, SC to be nearer her daughter and her family. Beverly was ordained to the Gospel Ministry at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Marion, SC in August of 2018 under Rev. Dr. A.C. Robinson. She served faithfully, often being called to preach. Her great delight was in finding her spiritual home at Majority Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. Alphonso Porter. She felt inspired to continue her education so that she could further serve the Lord using her many spiritual gifts. Thus, she went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Christian Counseling at the age of 71. She was tenacious and conscientious and determined to give God her all and all!

Beverly loved life. She loved and was loved by her mutually cherished friends. She loved entertaining and cooking for her family and friends. She loved to dance (and was good at it), coming of age when Motown was at its peak of popularity! She loved the great hymns of the church with her favorite being “The Blood Will Never Lose its Power”. But most of all, Beverly stood in absolute awe of the Lord’s goodness, mercy, and lovingkindness to her all of her life. And she wanted to tell the wondrous truth that Jesus saves to everyone who would listen! She was “very clear” that all was gift!

Beverly leaves to mourn her passing, children Jocelyn Noelle (Rev. Brandon) Eagleton and Rev. Vaughn (Pavanne) Cook; grandchildren Elise, Christian, Brayden, Joshua, Jacob, and Jasmine;  great-granddaughters Corrine and Collette; sisters Cheryl Anderson and Maureen Tracee Hughes; aunt Rose Williams; nephews and nieces, Corey, Nicole, Kia (Sean), Todd (Melony), and Tyler; great nieces and    nephews Samaya, Nylah, Zurielle, Morgan and Xolani; best friend Celeste King; lots of cousins and countless loving friends who will miss her dearly.

Beverly was preceded  in death by her beloved parents, James and Charlotte Ross, two brothers-in-law, William Hunter Anderson and Theodore Edward Hughes.
