Early Life and Family
Pastor Henry James Dixon, affectionately known as “Red,” was born on January 21, 1948, in Florence, South Carolina. He was the firstborn son of the late Pauline Dixon Goodman and Herbert Jackson. Raised with love and care by his grandparents, Mr. Mitchell and Queen Ester Daniels Dixon, Pastor Dixon’s early years were marked by strong family values that shaped his life. Surrounded by his family, Pastor Dixon peacefully departed this earthly life on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
Spiritual Journey
From a young age, Pastor Dixon was deeply committed to his faith. He joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Timmonsville, SC, where he faithfully served under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Solomon Eaddy. His commitment to Christ led him to accept salvation and eventually embrace the call to preach God’s Word. He continued his biblical training at Florence Baptist Temple and went on to serve in various congregations throughout the Pee Dee region and nearby areas. His service included roles at Round O Baptist Church, Howard Chapel FWB Church as Assistant Pastor, and as Pastor of Crusaders for Christ Church in Florence, SC. Pastor Dixon was known for his unwavering dedication to teaching, preaching, and living out the Word of God until his passing.
Education and Military Service
A proud graduate of Timmonsville High School, Class of 1967, Pastor Dixon demonstrated a commitment to excellence early in life. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, beginning a distinguished career of service to his country. In 1978, he joined the Army National Guard, continuing his military service for over two decades. Pastor Dixon bravely served in the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Afghanistan. During Desert Storm in 1990, he initiated Christian fellowship services and a choir, ministering to fellow soldiers and leading many to Christ even in the midst of conflict. His life reflected a deep devotion to both faith and country.
Professional Career and Community Involvement
After returning from military service, Pastor Dixon continued to serve his community through his work at ESAB Welding and Cutting, where he built a career spanning more than 40 years before retiring. His love for people and sports was evident as he shared his passion for martial arts, baseball, basketball, tennis, bowling, and pool. He also served as the assistant coach for the Timmonsville High School Girls Basketball Team, where he mentored and positively influenced many students, faculty, and staff.
Family and Legacy
Pastor Dixon was a devoted husband and father, cherishing his family above all. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, stepfather Troy Goodman, son-in-law Vincent Moses, sisters Evangeline Dixon and Patricia Brown, and brothers Marvin Hart, Herbert, Dewitt, and David Jackson.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Cherishing his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Prophetess Yvonne Dixon; his children: Pastor Henry (Devonne) Dixon Jr., Orlando (Lasonya) Frierson, Cynthia Anderson, Tamara Dixon Moses, Kiira Dixon, Terri Dixon, Walter A. Dixon, Pastor Tena (Pastor Kenneth) Gladney, Tawana Dixon, and Troy (Kerjuan) Dixon; 17 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings: Deacon Cleveland (Minister Betty) Hart, Ronald Goodman, Chief Apostle Diana Wright, Sonia H. Ferril, Lisa Pelote and Pam Jackson; aunts Mrs. Lorena Mickens, and Mrs. Rose Marian Dixon along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Enduring Impact
Pastor Henry J. Dixon’s life was a living testimony of faith, service, and steadfast love. His legacy will continue to shine in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
