Ronald Morton Sr. Obituary

On April 2, 2024, Ronald Morton, loving husband and father entered into eternal rest in Florence, South Carolina. Ronald was born on October 9, 1952 in Brownsville, Tennessee to Mary Frank Morton. He was raised on a farm by his mother and  grandparents Frank and Mildred Morton.

Ronald attended Hayes Chapel Elementary School and graduated from Carver High School in Brownsville, Tennessee class of 1970. He had a passion for  agriculture, thanks to his agriculture    teacher Mr. Theodore Giles. He attended and graduated Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1975 majoring in agriculture (Plant Science). In 1977 he became employed by the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation (formally the Soil Conservation Service) in Florence, South Carolina as a Soil Scientist. After 38 years of employment, he retired. During his tenure there he mapped and classified soils in counties all over South Carolina and in North and South Dakota.  He was the author of three soil survey books and assisted writing two others. He discovered and named three soils that had never been mapped in the United States. He mapped, classified and taught soil classes all over the United States. His hobbies included hunting and fishing in the Black River Swamp in Williamsburg County, South Carolina.

He attended church with his grandparents, joined St. Paul Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tennessee at an early age and was a member of the choir.

On June 17, 1976, he married Allean Machelle Gaines and to this union one child Ronald Jr. was born.

Ronald was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents and sister Darcelia Young.

He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife Allean Morton; son Ronald Morton, Jr.; two grandchildren Deaja Morton and Marissa Morton; two brothers Calvin Young and Bruce Young; brother-in-law Robert (Lasandra) Bass; special nephew and niece Terrance (Lacole) Young and Renee (Tellys) Hunter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
